The Goal
O2 is a continuation of the foundation of your occlusion education.
This course is focused on full-mouth reconstructive dentistry with an
emphasis on case treatment planning through the mastering of accurate
functional analysis. Each participant will learn the four mastery level
steps in evaluating, planning, and carrying out the most advanced full-mouth
cases. This intensive hands-on course is where the didactic information is
put to use. Clinical demonstrations and hands-on applications of splint
therapies, joint analysis, joint position capturing, and jaw movements are
all part of this experience. Laboratory and group workshops in treatment
planning, actual case analysis and alteration through Advanced MAP
techniques are different from any other course you will take in occlusion.
Ultimate Occlusion is a required pre-requisite for this course.
Participants will learn the fundamentals and distinctions of the following:
Step One: Treatment planning
- Setting up a system to control the various steps in large complex case planning
- Implementing treatment planning flow charts to watch treatment progression
- Determining when specialist consultation is necessary
- Recognizing when the case is combination of restorative and orthodontics
Step Two: Resolving the Joint
- Interpreting advanced Joint Vibration recordings at a proficient level.
- Understanding the dynamics of joint movement through computerized jaw movement analysis.
- Determining differential diagnosis using JVA
- Understanding which treatment option is require when specific JVA diagnosis are discovered.
- What are the available splint therapies and how to choose the appropriate appliance for the presenting diagnostic condition.
- Lab communication for the fabrication of your prescribed appliance
- Proper Appliance insertion and follow-up procedures
- Determining if the joint is resolved and what to do if the therapy does not seem to resolve the joint
Step Three: Setting up the case
- Mastering clinical procedures of occlusal alterations through selective occlusal equilibrations of natural dentition.
- Advance MAP techniques will be discussed along with implementation of flow chart methods for staying in control steps and timing of occlusal alterations.
- Deciding on which types of occlusal records are required for a specific case and hands on applications of various alternatives to capturing accurate occlusal records
- Verifying articulated mountings and condylar position for accuracy.
- Making informed decisions regarding the amount VDO change to make
- Determining the ideal occlusal plane and how it effects your VDO determination
Step Four: Final treatment planning and case execution
- How to treatment plan various types of cases through interactive workshops in treatment planning cases.
- Understanding the adaptive and restorative requirements that control decision to restore the full-mouth or the anterior segments first.
- Appropriate sequencing of combination fixed and removable cases.
- Sequencing combination implant and conventional restorative case
- Communicating occlusal requirements to the dental laboratory
- Verifying occlusion of the all ceramic cases at try-in
- When and how to set up post insertion therapy and protection devices
- Trouble shooting case and restoration failures
